The ombré effect is achieved by holding one strand of fingering weight yarn with one strand of fuzzy mohair (Hedgehog Fibres Alpaca Boucle would be great too!) in three different colours and striping the mohair between the colour transitions, while the fingering weight yarn remains the same.
Yarn: 3 [3, 3, 4, 4] [5, 5, 6, 6] - skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn (90% Merino, 10% Nylon, 100g/400m), held double with 3 [3, 3, 4, 4] [5, 5, 6, 6] - skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace (70% Mohair, 30% Silk, 50g/420m).
The colours pictured are Sock Yarn in Cereal, held together with Kidsilk in and Pet Rock, Juniper and Hawk.
Needle: US 6 / 4 mm needles, 32” circular needle
Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch, blocked lightly by washing and laying flat to dry
